Went to a pre-release demo on this new 'toy' last night.... A camera (2 built in) that takes a REAL 3D picture or video, (convertible to normal 2D) that lets you see the 3D effect  on its viewfinder or external 8" display. No need for silly special glasses etc.

I immediately thought how cool for photographing show cars etc or specialist engineering problems/applications that need specialist diagnosis. Example, in the field, snap a pic of the problem and email the 3D image to head office for advice... There is SO much more info in the image. I found it really uncanny 1st time i viewed a real 3D pic of myself with all the things happening behind me. Almost un-real!

Hell, even Mitsubishi stuff would look cool.... ;-)

Check it out here.... not in the shops till late September...

Yes, that was the main subject at the Show. I guess though this is really a 1st product and for real video it would need to be HiDef 1280x720 minimum with 16:9 aspect ratio.

Porn would look more real that ever then.... Kinda scary i have to say....
awesome camera - wonder what price tag will be - or was it on that link and i missed it?

... camera retails $1199 (you've gotta remember it's effectively T W O cameras (each 10mega-pixel). The 8" 'photoframe' display specifically for showing the 3D images/ video (with stereo sound) etc $799 etc

Probably savings on buying both at once...

jees that's cheap my Fujifilm MX1500 was $1500 worth when i bought it 8-10 yrs ago

man digital cameras sure have come down in price as technology improves eh - your business must be booming pete with all the electricals people buy these days?
Bought it back in the UK at 500 Pounds Sterling (lol always laugh when describe it like that and not just say 500 quid)

Yes, cameras are where it's at all right. This Christmas Fujifilm will have something cheap enough for pre-teens kids in all sorts of crazy catchy weird colours, digital of course and really easy to use plus quite robust (just as well)....

For me i don't think the 3D one is refined enough. I already own an SLR with the lenses etc and a couple of point in shoots. The Canon IXUS80IS is hacked using CHKD so it can do 100s of things normally locked out.

I'm really interested in the soon to come to market Canon IXUS200IS

with it's 3" touchscreen and ability to make real HiDef video with stereo sound....

Photographing show cars and recording vids is going to be INCREDIBLE with it plus it won't be long for the hack mods to come out for it....

I called Canon Tuesday and the salesgirl was concerned i knew about the camera because it was a secret and now i see that Canon NZ has a little bit about it on their websight.... No prices though.

quick question for you - why would a camera make batteries use up their charge quickly? i mean like near on immediately - i know the batteries are good cos brand new!!
Nice to see that someone has taken the gimmick a step further. I used to work for Kodak and I heard that a company took one of our digital cameras and converted it to take 3D images. It was the early DC range so it wouldn't have the resolution or zoom that modern cameras have.

Kodak itself made what they called a 35mm Stereo Camera back in the '50's. The camera with two lenses with the viewfinder in the middle. It took double images that could be viewed like the old fashioned cards to produces 3d images.

Will, the biggest user of a camera's power is the LCD screen. If you have a manual viewfinder, turn the LCD screen off and see if the batteries last longer. If they don't then I'm guessing that the camera has a short somewhere and this is draining the battery. If the camera does run well without the LCD screen then check that you are using the appropriate battery type. Not all batteries are compatible. eg standard zinc-carbon v zinc-chloride or Lithium. Rehchargeble batteries also come in different formats such as NiCad or Ni-MH.

One of the reasons why I like my Kodak Z650 is that if the battery pack runs out I can just pop in a pair of AA's as long as they aren't alkaline. Great in emergencies.
